Oak Creek Fishing Info

Oak Creek is a branch of the Verde River. The creek flows from the north of the Sedona town and all along the Oak Creek Canyon. In the northern desert region of Arizona, this is one of the few water bodies that is still present today.

Oak Creek is famous for its fishing creeks. The amazing autumn colors and great fishing are the wonders of this lake. The creek has an elevation of 1,300 m from Sedona to 1,800 m at the Oak Creek Canyon. The water bodies have played a major role in carving the Oak Creek Canyon you see today.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department stocks the lake, which helps in good fishing. The various types of fishes seen here are Rainbow trout, Brown trout and Brook trout. The Oak Creek is a great place for beginners to learn fishing. Casting is a common method used to fish here. The wild brook trout found in the higher elevations of the creek thrive in the water that is clean and cold.

To catch big fish, you will need to search for deep pools where the trouts hide. The best spots for fishing trouts are right above the slide rocks. Many deep pools are present here with huge trouts hiding in these spots. You need to be careful here, as the bottom of the creek is slippery. Also, it is not easy to reach these places and good waterproof gear will come in handy, as you might get wet.

Worms and flies as bait are helpful for fishing. The next best method to catch fish is fly-fishing. This technique can however be easy at times and difficult during other times. This will entirely depend on the fish you plan to catch, be it young trout, hold-over trout, or wild trout. Wild trouts are the best catch here, as they are easier to find.

The stream is well fed by the springs and maintains a good pH value. That’s the reason why the trouts hatch well in the Laks. Dry fly-fishing is another great method where trouts prefer a certain type of insect as bait.

The best season for fishing is during the autumn and winter. Spring is the season of hatching and hence, it is a good time to fish young trouts. The waters are warm during summers and fishes are abundant in the lower regions. If you are looking for wild trouts, then go fishing in the higher regions. Fall is the best time for fly-fishing in the Oak Creek. Warm winter days help catch huge trouts in the creek easily.
