Enjoyed a nice day out today with my mate Tony down at Diamond Head – Pimpama River.
The weather was looking pretty ordinary as it had been raining for the last couple of days. Our trip was planned a few days in advance but with the blotchy weather we were reconsidering our options.
Nevertheless Tony and I braved the weather. I had worked hard the last two weeks so sunshine or hail I was determined to go! On this particular session I thought I’d give an all lure challenge a go. I knew in advance the area was well known for the abundance of flatties. Never thought I’d be in for a suprise though armed with a few bibbed minnows and 3 containers of soft plastics I gave it another go.
We got to the ramp at 10:30am. Hightide was predicted for 1ish. Tony and I drifted with the tide for some kilometre and half before I started panicking! Wind was blowing pretty hard and water was quite choppy. Tony had gone so so far I couldn’t even see him! Even though I wasn’t paddling I dreaded the trip back lol.
During the drift I had a hardbody lure out just drifting it behind the kayak. I managed 2 flatties almost within 15mins one after another. One was undersized and released. 20mins later I landed another one! The feeling was awesome! Rarely have I landed 3 in a session 💪. Tony too landed two flatties and 2 whiting. We kept 3 flatties for a feed, other one was released.
Awesome day with wicked company! Was really expecting a big fat donut lol 👌
