The Kobuk River is located in the Arctic region in northwest Alaska. The river is 200 miles in length, and it flows through lowlands, rolling mountains, and plains. This makes it a great experience to fish in this river. Kobuk River is located 6.2 miles in the northeastern side of Shungnak. In Kobuk River you can catch fishes of varied varieties, something that you may have never caught in all your life.
 

FISHING STYLE

The avid anglers love to fish on the Kobuk River. They get to catch a different variety of fishes and also practice new fishing techniques. The conventional methods that are used here are spinning, fly-fishing, and wading.

LICENSE INFORMATION

A fishing license is mandatory for those who are residents of Alaska and are over 18 years of age. For non-residents, the fishing license is compulsory for 16 years or older. To catch King Salmon, you need a king salmon stamp. The law applies to both marine and freshwater fishing.

SEASON INFORMATION

Because of the location of the Kobuk River, the time that you can fish here is very short. The best time to fish here is in July, August, and September. These months are great because the fishes get active in the summer months. As the autumn approaches, the fish activity starts to spike.

There are plenty of fish varieties in the Kobuk River. You can catch the Lake trout, Arctic grayling, chum salmon, Arctic char and the Northern pike. The sheefish, however, is the most popular and an exact price for which the anglers come to Kobuk River.  

Sheefish is salmon’s cousin, and they grow more than yard long. These are strong and quick, and they can also pull the rod from the angler. Chum salmon, Lake trout and Northern pike are the fishes found here. The sheefish is not a known species of fish, and they are around 20 to 50 pounds. August and September are the best months to catch the sheefish.
Kobuk River is the place where you can fish for the Arctic fish species. When you fish here, you will be given the fishing gears on rent. These include the rafts, fishing rods, stoves, tents, camping gear, etc.

  Arctic Grayling The Arctic grayling can be found in the clear water lake in all seasons. Their average size is between 10 to 18 inches.
Lake Trout is found in the vast and deep waters, and these are caught using spinners, spoons, and flies. Their size ranges from 5 to 25 pounds.
There are two types of Arctic char, namely anadromous and resident char. The weight of the anadromous is 8 to 10 lbs, and that of the resident char is 3 to 5 pounds.
The chum salmon is found in the interiors, and they can be best caught in July and August. Its weight ranges from 5 to 15 pounds.
The Northern pike is abundant in the river, and it is somewhere between 5 to 30 pounds in weight.
