Vrain State Park Fishing 2022

Vrain State Park is surrounded by the scenic mountain peaks of Longmont which is just 45 miles away from Denver. While driving along the highway 119 to reach Vrain state park, one can enjoy whole lots of natural scenery.

Ice fishing in the state park is very famous, yet one would be surprised to know that the park hosts a lot of warm water species too. One can catch a wide variety like catfish here, and there are as many as ten pounds like sandpiper pond, mallard pond, pelican pond and killdeer pond for fishing purpose. The place is great for family fishing, and one can catch pumpkinseed, perch, panfish, walleye, and the rainbow trout too. One can do shore fishing or take boats on the ponds to have a good catch. The park hosts an event in March called ‘st Vrain Fishing experience’ where wildlife and fishing experts teach and guide in fishing expeditions. Baits like flies, rooster, tails, panther, and martins are allowed to be used. While fishing in the bald eagle pond kindly note that only artificial flies and lures alone can be used. If a fisher catches a bass by chance, it has to be returned to the water immediately. Different types of fishes are stocked in various ponds, and each pond has a different fishing regulation. For example, catch and release, the rule is also followed in blue heron pond. A fisher can even take 20 catches of crappie available in Pelican, coot and pintail ponds whereas only 4 trouts are allowed. Catches of common carp are unlimited and can be done on all ponds. Northern pike can be caught only in the pelican and pintail ponds. Even people with mediocre fishing skills can get a good catch here.

The northern side of the park has more scope for good catches as the area is familiar to most fishers. The catch and release ponds are on the southern side, and most fishing spots in the southern side are free from the crowd. The advantage of this site is that even the smallest pond gives a huge sized catch. Fishing experts opine that during summer this park is the best spot in entire Colorado where there will be a spending catch of rainbow trouts.
