CJ Strike Reservoir is a beautiful water resource located among mountains of Idaho. The reservoir has two sections; The snake river arm and the Bruneau River arm. The site serves as an excellent camping spot with a maximum of 14 days camping being permitted. Besides fishing, hiking is a very popular activity along with kayaking, boating and water skiing can be enjoyed on the waters.
CJ Strike Reservoir is just a seventy-minute drive from Boise. There are many attractions in areas close to the reservoir. To name a few, Ohio Antique center, Lloyd Wright’s Westcott house, Buck Creek state park and the Hartman Rock garden. All these places are within 10 Kms proximity to the reservoir.
Out of all the lakes in and around Boise, C J Strike Reservoir is the most accessible. The route is traveler friendly.
The reservoir has good facilities like picnic shelters, fire rings, and a boat ramp. Across the snake river arm of the reservoir, tourists throng to spot rare birds like Long-billed Curlew, Western Screech and Burrowing owls. Nearly 240 species of birds strike this area annually. In the summer, American white pelicans are seen in plenty. The area is used as a migration spot by Waterfowl and Tundra swans.
The reservoir has shallow as well as deep waters. Hence, anglers find small and largemouth bass in shallow waters casting lures and spinner baits. Deep waters are dominated by trouts. The reservoir is open for fishing throughout the year. During winter, Anglers get ice fishing opportunities. At times the Bruneau Arm is covered by 8 to 10 inches of ice. However, freezing temperatures do not last long. When the water gets warm, bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, and perch can be reaped. Crappies are a quite easy catch for anglers of any age group. The one unique quality of CJ strike water is, it supports both cold and warm water fish species. Baits like Maggots, worms, mealworms, etc. are commonly used.
Nearly 10 varieties of fish species thrive in the waters. However yellow perch and rainbow trout have the highest catch rates. During winter warm clothing and auger are the basics. Only simple gear is required for fishing at C J Strike reservoir.
CJ Strike Reservoir has three particular spots to provide unique fishing experiences for anglers. There is a main area near the dam which provide easy access for bank and boat angling. Fishing in the snake river arm is accessible only through the boat. Whereas the anglers can try diverse fishing opportunities in the snake river arm.
A valid 2017 (or later) fishing license is required for venturing here. An angler is permitted up to 5 rods. Anglers should be of 14 years or older.

Anglers can reap the best catch during early spring and summer. Hence April to early June is the best fishing season here. Fishing competition is held during late March every year.
