Geist Reservoir 2022

Geist Reservoir earned the reputation as the second-largest man-made lake in Indiana. The reservoir can hold up to 60000acre-feet of water and gets its water from the damming of Fall Creek. Most parts of the reservoir are shallow. Apart from fishing, it is famous for other activities like swimming, Kayaking, and boating.

The reservoir is located near Indianapolis which is just a three-hour flight from Cincinnati. All the leading hotels are located in Indianapolis and around the Reservoir area. Ample public transportation is available from Indianapolis Town to the reservoir. Depending on whether you start from the town center or Wyndham in Indianapolis, you can reach the reservoir in 2 to 3 hours. You can also hire a cab/chartered limo to reach the reservoir.

Tourists do not miss out the castle black, Kimmel Temple and St. Simon Apostle Catholic church which is located in close proximity to the reservoir. A lot is being done recently to develop the park around the reservoir.

Do not be surprised to see that most of the natural banks of the reservoir are taken up by surrounded houses. The reservoir offers ample opportunities for boat fishing.

Geist Reservoir has a three-lane ramp for boats. Depending on the month of your visit, check which of these ramps are to be used. Motorboats are launched from Olio Road Launching Ramp. Geist Marina ramp is used for launching the sailboats.

The reservoir has numerous coves and points that hold fish. Anglers can catch fishes weighing from 3 to 7 Ib. The walleyes move to shallow areas here for eating fishes during the dark hours. Hence, Anglers get the best around 1.30 to 3.30 a.m. in the morning. Bass love warm water. This makes the catch from 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. in the evening hefty.

When you want to get more of bass, you need minnows or specially designed bass lures. Most bait stores offer good quality minnows. Anglers use worms for a good catch of catfish.

The northern side of the lake is filled with awesome water lily pads. Explore the eastern side of the reservoir to get the glimpse of the creek which gives the water. Fishing opportunities are plenty right from the creek until the water reaches the reservoir. The local residents and authorities are working together to protect the waters.
